Get Your Gay Card Right Here

LC reader Will has tipped me off to this site where you can finally get your gay card.  I've been waiting years for mine to be issued.  Now, where's my copy of the gay agenda?  I'm still waiting on that one.

To get your gay card, you must first take a quiz.  I scored 66 which is "acceptably gay."  Seriously?  Only acceptably gay?  I protest some of the questions.  I may not have Britney on my iPod, but I do have Judy, Barbra, Donna McKechnie, Vanessa Williams, Barbara Cook, Lulu, Abba, and the entire 1957 and 2009 original cast recordings of West Side Story.  So there!

Barbra as Gypsy is On

No wonder the rapture didn't happen last week, Arthur Laurents arranged for Heaven on Earth shortly before he died a few weeks ago.  The playwright and director signed off on a deal with Universal Pictures and producer Joel Silver to remake a film version of Gypsy starring none other than Miss Barbra Streisand.  This will be Miss Streisand's first screen musical since Yentl in 1983.  Stephen Sondheim, who wrote the lyrics for Gypsy, is also in on the development discussions.  The agreement calls for the film to be "substantially similar" to the stage musical, thank God.

Gypsy was made into a 1962 movie starring Rosalind Russell and a 1993 TV movie starring Bette Midler.  Laurents famously hated the '62 film because he didn't think Russell brought a necessary trashy quality to Rose.

Will Barbra Direct Idina on Broadway?

According to the blog Lemonwade, there are rumors of a Funny Girl revival in the works to star none other than Idina Menzel and to be directed by (let me catch my breath) Barbra Streisand herself!  Just writing that sent glitter and rainbow sparks flying out of my computer.  I have no idea if the rumors are even remotely true but if there's a God they are.

Barbra Live

Barbra Streisand performed live at the Village Vanguard last weekend and I wasn't there to see it. 74 tickets were given out in a lottery and God knows I signed up for it, but luck wasn't with me. One lucky guy was 49 year old Michel Filion, a photographer from Montreal. He managed to swipe a paper cup that La Streisand drank from. "I guess I'll bronze it," he said, and add it to his carpet scrap from the theater where he saw her perform in 1994. I'd fight him for it. I would have fucked him for the ticket.

I kid.

The concert coincided with the release of her new album, Love is the Answer, which I've pre-ordered.
