Emmys are Gleeful, Mad

The Emmy nominations were announced this morning and Glee and Mad Men were among the chosen.  Glee received 19 nominations, making it the most honored series.  Nominations include  Best Comedy Series as well as acting nods for Lea Michele (love her!), Matthew Morrison (hot!), Jane Lynch (Yay!) and Chris Colfer (Wow!).  This is Colfer's first professional acting job.  Plus, the Madonna episode was nominated for costumes and makeup!

Mad Men got 17 nominations including best drama and acting nominations for Jon Hamm (delicious!), John Slattery (more delicious!), January Jones (needs to eat a sandwich or two), Christina Hendricks (stacked!) Elisabeth Moss (not stacked).

Here are other significant nominations (and by significant, I mean people and shows I like):

The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien was nominated in the category of best comedy and variety series while the unfunny Leno was snubbed.

Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series is totally gay.  In addition to Chris Colfer, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Eric Stonestreet, who play the gay couple on Modern Family, were both nominated.  LC NY Bureau Chief Doug keeps telling me I should watch that show.  Neil Patrick Harris was nominated again for How I Met Your Mother.  I always hope he wins so America can see him kiss his cute husband, but this time I have to support Colfer.  Wouldn't it be great if he won?  I wonder who he'll bring as his date?

Neil is also nominated for best guest actor for Glee.  He should totally win for that.  Alan Cumming was nominated for best guest actor in a drama for The Good Wife.

In addition to Jane Lynch, Tony winner Jane Krakowski was nominated in the Supporting Actress in a Comedy category for 30 Rock.  Tragically, Vanessa Williams was not nominated for the recently cancelled Ugly Betty.  I love Krakowski, but this one has got to go to Jane Lynch.  She is way overdue for recognition.

Lynch is also nominated for Guest Actress in a Comedy for Two and a Half Men.  Even Jane couldn't get me to watch that show.  Betty White is nominated for Saturday Night Live as well as Kristin Chenowith for Glee and Elaine Stritch for 30 Rock.  I really think this one belongs to Betty.  She's the hottest thing in show business these days.

Guest Actress in a Drama Nominees include Ann-Margret (Law and Order SVU), Lily Tomlin (Damages), Shirley Jones (The Cleaner) and Mary Kay Place (Big Love)!  I can't pick one!  I love them all!  I guess Shirley will show up with her crazy husband.  Will Lily bring her wife?

Supporting Actress in a Drama nominees include the fabulous Christine Baranski for The Good Wife, which I've never seen, Hendricks and Moss from Mad Men, and Debbie Novotny/Christine Cagney herself, Sharon Gless for Burn Notice, another show I've never seen.  Maybe I need to watch more TV.

In the Best Actor in a Drama category, Jon Hamm has handsome competition from Matthew Fox for Lost, a show I have never watched even though I understand he sometimes takes his shirt off.

As usual, the acting categories in mini-series and movies are loaded with prestige stars.  A couple of dames, Maggie Smith (Capturing Mary) and Judi Dench (Return to Cranford), are competing with Joan Allen (Georgia O'Keeffe) for best actress.  Sir Ian McKellan (The Prisoner) will be battling it out with recent Oscar winner Jeff Bridges (A Dog Year) for best actor.  In the supporting actress category, Brenda Vaccaro, who loves tampons,  is nominated for You Don't Know Jack and her competition includes the under appreciated Catherine O'Hara for Temple Grandin.  Hey Brenda, isn't it enough to be featured in an exhibit in the Museum of Menstruation?

Seth Green and Anne Hathaway competing in the same category?  They've both been nominated for voice-over work.

Kathy Griffin, My Life on the D-List was nominated again for Best Reality Program.  Come on Kathy, you know you can take Antiques Roadshow

Finally, Project Runway has been set up yet again to loose to the boring Amazing Race.  Heidi Klum got a nod as host so she can be robbed again.

You can download the full list of nominations here.

Other than Vanessa Williams, who do you think was snubbed?  Who doesn't belong on the list of nominations?
