Jenny Sanford: Gays Wrecked My Marriage!

South Carolina First Lady Jenny Sanford has discovered the real reason for the destruction of her solid, Christian marriage - teh gays:

“Of course I’m not saying that Mark is gay,” Sanford said, “but he may as well be. The moral decay in this country has claimed another victim and this time it was my family. Our marriage was perfect until these laws started passing around the country. Clearly the slow dissolution of the sanctity of marriage in America seeped into Mark’s psyche until he no longer felt compelled to abide by our vows.”

Of course, Rush Limbaugh was quick to jump on this new "proof" that marriage equality for gays destroys heterosexual marriage:

“America, I’ve been warning you for years that gay marriage would destroy the American family and look… there they are, a husband, wife, and four children — destroyed. When is this going to stop America? When will the liberals be satisfied? When all the marriages break up? This wasn’t Mark Sanford’s fault, this was Ted Kennedy’s fault. Sanford didn’t cheapen the value of marriage, he was victimized by the cheapening of marriage.”

In case you haven't figured it out yet, this entire thing is a joke from a terrific site that Lazy Circles NY Bureau Chief Doug turned me on to. It's called The diSCust. Think The Onion but focused on the Palmetto State. Talk about a fertile field for satire. Check it out.

Rush Limbaugh to Judge Miss America

The Miss America Organization has announced that Rush Limbaugh will be one of the judges of the pageant to be held January 30, 2010.

"We are thrilled to have Rush join us for our pageant this year," said MAO President and CEO, Art McMaster. "We know that the 2010 Miss America Pageant will be filled with new twists and exciting opportunities with him as one of our national judges."

As a long-time pageant queen, I am appalled. Has Mr. McMaster (pictured at left above) lost his mind? Miss America is supposed to be an iconic, unifying figure in our culture. Choosing one of the most divisive figures in national media as a judge is inviting needless controversy. Does he not realize Rush's history of racist and sexist comments? Rush Limbaugh said he would be forced to "bend over and grab his ankles" for President Obama because he's black. He called the President the "little black man-child." He said slavery in the South "had it's merits" because "the streets were safer after dark." He told an African-American woman caller to "take the bone out of her nose and call me back." Speaking of women, Limbaugh justified John Edwards' affair by saying “Edwards might be attracted to a woman whose mouth did something other than talk.” Another Rush gem: “He’s trying to figure out how he can get involved in the deal down there at Duke where the lacrosse team…supposedly, you know, raped, some, uh, hos.”

Does this seem appropriate for an organization that prides itself on being " the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women?" If you would like to express your disgust at this development, like I did, here is contact information for the Miss America Organization:
