Sarah Palin wants America to know that her bus tour to restore America's Greatness or whatever is NOT CANCELLED! Sure, she's sitting in Wasilla and not visiting the Inspiring Great Historical Sights of America's Greatness and Liberty, but the tour's totally not cancelled. Don't even think this pronouncement has anything to do with bad publicity. She's totally going to get back on the bus. Soon. Really. She's not a quitter, got it?
In other news, her upcoming trip to Sudan has been cancelled due to "scheduling conflicts." By "scheduling conflicts," I mean somebody showed her Sudan on a map. She was supposed to travel there with Franklin Graham and Greta van Susteren because if there's anything that war-torn country needs it's Sarah Palin, Franklin Graham and Greta van Susteren.

Once a Quitter....
Sarah Palin has abruptly quit her One Nation Bus Tour/Family Vacation half-way through. A month ago, the press followed her like she was Britney as she dashed from place to place without warning, never issuing a schedule and never staying long. She insisted that the tour was just a family vacation, not "about me" and not political. Pay no attention to the giant bus plastered with her pictures and name paid for by her political action committee, and read nothing into the fact that she emerged at every stop in heels, power suit, and TV make-up. It was just a simple family vacation to reconnect with America's proud history. She had indicated that the non-political tour would wind its way through Iowa and South Carolina, not because they're politically important because this tour was not about politics. Iowa and South Carolina are just so gosh darn historical. Anyway, she never made it to either place. The Palin clan is back in Alaska.

Next Book Club Selection
Levi Johnston has signed a book deal. Hey, if Bristol can do it, why not him? It's to be called Deer in the Headlights: My Life in Sarah Palin's Crosshairs. Levi had this to say:
“I want to tell the truth about my close relationship with the Palins… my sense of Sarah, and my perplexing fall from grace–how I feel and what I’ve learned. I’m doing this for me, for my boy Tripp and for the country.”
OK, maybe he didn't actually use the word perplexing, but I'll be sure and read it, and by "read it" I mean scan some excerpts on a web site somewhere if I happen to come across it. I'll re-think this if it comes packaged with a complimentary Playgirl.
Via Andrew Sullivan.

Kathy Griffin Responds to Sarah Palin
Sunday, March 6, 2011
Thank You Sarah Palin! Love, Kathy
Watch ex 1/2 term Governor Palin give Kathy Griffin free publicity:
One of the things that makes Palin such an attractive subject for comedians is her thin skin. If a comic mentions her, she will respond, preferably in front of a TV camera. You can't buy publicity like that. If she were smart, she'd know that the best response to something like that is no response. I love that she challenged Kathy to come to Alaska and "pick on" her. You know Kathy will do it! Of course, Kathy has already gone to Alaska and knocked on Palin's door. Nobody answered. What do you want to bet Sarah chickens out if Kathy returns to Wasilla?

Quote of the Day
“Nobody is more qualified to multitasking and doing all the things that you need to do as president than a woman, a mom,” Ms. Palin said to appreciative laughter, particularly among the women. She added with a smile, “Maybe someone who’s already run for something — a vice-presidential candidate?”
--Former 1/2 term governor Sarah Palin, speaking at a highly paid gig on Long Island. Let's see, who could she be talking about? A woman and a mom who's run for VP? Geraldine Ferraro?
Wonkette's take is priceless, and spot-on.

It's Happening
Greg Sergeant of the Washington Post had this to say about recent Public Policy Polling data:
"A 51% majority of national GOP primary voters erroneously think President Obama was not born in the U.S. 28% know that he was. With the latter, Palin's favorability rating is 41-52 -- other than Ron Paul, the only candidate these voters view negatively. But with birthers, she has a soaring 83-12, far higher than for any of the others."
Look for an explosion of birther madness.
Andrew Sullivan has more to say.

Sarah Palin Wants to Deport X-Tina
From Kenneth in the 212 comes the latest bit of insightful analysis from former 1/2 Governor Sarah Palin. She told Sean Hannity that if she were president, she would deport Christina. Now, I'm not a fan of Miss Aguilera's Super Bowl performance either, but deportation seems a bit harsh, particularly since she was born in New York. It would have taken a Palin minion 10 seconds tops to find her birthplace, but facts don't matter in Palin-Hannity world.

Miss 30%
A Washington Post/ABC poll shows that only 30% of Republicans approve of Sarah Palin's response to the Tucson shooting. That's 30% of Republicans. In contrast, 71% of Republicans approve of President Obama's response.
So how did Miss Wasilla respond to this self-inflicted train wreck? She went on Sean Hannity, called the speech that 71% of Republicans approve of a "campaign stop," and doubled down on the self-victimization. I am no longer concerned that she could be president. She can't stop herself from destroying her own career. She is show biz, nothing more.

Palin Goes All In
Since the shooting in Tucson, half Gov. Palin has been on the receiving end of a great deal of criticism for her gunsight graphic and heated, violent rhetoric. Today, she spoke. Behold, a video has been issued from Mount Olympus Wasilla. You may watch it here.
She had an opportunity to show leadership, instead she used incendiary language ("blood libel") and wallowed in her victimhood. In other words, it's business as usual in Palin World. Her only hope of ever winning the presidency is through exploitation of an extremely divided electorate, so why would she become a uniter at this point?
She seems to have two central points. First, the blame for horrific crimes rests solely with the criminals. To suggest that words incite them is wrong:
"Acts of monstrous criminality stand on their own. They begin and end with the criminals who commit them, not collectively with all the citizens of a state, not with those who listen to talk radio, not with maps of swing districts used by both sides of the aisle, not with law-abiding citizens who respectfully exercise their First Amendment rights at campaign rallies, not with those who proudly voted in the last election."
Second, the words of journalists and pundits incite violence:
"But, especially within hours of a tragedy unfolding, journalists and pundits should not manufacture a blood libel that serves only to incite the very hatred and violence they purport to condemn. That is reprehensible."
Got that? When Palin talks of gunsights and Death Panels, of a socialist take-over of America and palling around with domestic terrorists, it's simply a benign exercise of her First Amendment rights. When "journalists and pundits" suggest otherwise, it's a "blood libel" that incites violence.

The Palin Flop Continues
Sales of Sarah Palin's new book, that she totally wrote, America by Heart, Stories of Patriotism, Prayer, and Pimping Your Kids, or whatever the fuck the marketing department named it, are not exactly brisk. HarperCollins has not ordered a second printing. Also, ratings for her Presidential campaign infomercial reality show, Sarah Palin's Alaska, are tanking. Cher said it best of the 1/2 term quitter: "A stupid woman is a stupid woman."

Sarah Palin a Flop in Dallas
Here's one piece of good news, Dallas apparently doesn't give a shit about Sarah Palin. The picture above is of the huge, throng at a Barnes and Noble on Sunday when the ex half-term governor made an appearance to sign copies of her new book, How to Get Rich if You're Dumb, Pretty, and Borderline Illiterate. Wait, that's not what it's called? Oh, who cares, that's about 30 people in line. B&N set aside a whopping 250 books for Palin to sign. Fox 4 didn't even send one of it's name reporters. I hope Sarah's saving her money.

Sara Palin's What?
All those people who are upset over Bristol Palin's possible victory on Dancing With the Stars can feel better knowing that ratings for Sarah Palin's Alaska have plummeted. The premiere set a ratings record for whatever basic cable network carries it, and this was reported endlessly (as is everything that flatters Palin). For the second episode, the audience dropped by half.

Palin Slams Michelle Obama
Sarah Palin has a new book out with the vomit-inducing title of America by Heart, Reflections on Family, Faith, and Flag. In the book, Palin has written there is a particularly ugly and racist passage that criticizes Michelle Obama for not being proud of America and, well, for not being white:
Certainly his wife expressed this view when she said during the 2008 campaign that she had never felt proud of her country until her husband started winning elections. In retrospect, I guess this shouldn't surprise us, since both of them spent almost two decades in the pews of the Reverend Jeremiah Wright's church listening to his rants against America and white people.
Of course, that's not really what Michelle Obama said and this horse has been beaten to death, but I thought this passage was pretty breathtaking in it's racism. Palin doesn't even try to hide it anymore.
h/t, LC NY Bureau Chief Doug.

Gosh, I Wonder Where She Learned That?
Someone who dared criticize Sarah Palin's Alaska got the Palin treatment from 16 year old Willow via Twitter. The youngster called him a faggot, told him not to talk shit, and demonstrated a grasp of English grammar rivaling her mother's. I can't imagine where she learned homophobia in such a fine family.

FYI, I've started some contract work that involves long hours and no on-the-job blogging. Thank God for Doug and the NY Bureau or I'd go days without updating this thing. Thanks Doug! Remind me to give you a raise.

Alaska Has Sarah Palin's Number
Sara Palin's Alaska may be a hit, but it's clearly not Sarah Palin's Alaska. A Public Policy Poll released today found only 15% of Alaska Republicans think she should be the next GOP nominee. You might think that people in a small state would be proud of a native daughter who is talked about as a possible presidential contender, but Alaskans have already experienced her "leadership." Let's hope the rest of the country takes note.

I Want to Work Where This Guy Works
From Joe.My.God comes this clip of a guy from yesterday's Beck/Palin White-a-Palooza claiming that homosexuals are holding him back:
Granted, a few homosexuals have held me back in my day, but that's another post.
My question is, where does he work? If there's an employer who gives preference to gays, I need to send in my resume!

Outrage: Plans to Build Library Next to Sarah Palin!
The Daily Mash has the story:
"PLANS to build a state-of-the-art library next to Republican catastrophe Sarah Palin are causing outrage across mainstream America.
Campaigners have described the project as insensitive and a deliberate act of provocation by people with brains."
Read the entire shocking story here.
