Johnny Weir in 6th Place After Short Program

Johnny Weir skated his short program in the Vancouver Olympics last night and as always, he remained true to himself.  His performance was beautiful and appeared flawless to my untrained eyes.   His costume was pink and black with a plunging neckline and he ended his routine by blowing kisses to the crowd.  The homophobic figure skating establishment would love for him to go away, and his surprisingly low scores reflected it.  I believe they will always score him lower than "straight" skaters like Evan Lysacek.  The NBC commentators, including totally butch former gold medalists Dick Button and Scott Hamilton repeatedly describe Johnny as "controversial" and "quirky."  They don't know what to do with this guy.

Russian Evgeni Plushenko finished the night in first place with Lysacek in second and Japan's Daisuke Takahashi in third.
