House Votes to Repeal Don't Ask/Don't Tell
The US House of Representatives voted tonight to repeal the military gay ban, euphemistically known as Don't Ask/Don't Tell, conditioned on the DOD study due in December and certification from the President. It's not a done deal, but it's a significant step. The Senate Armed Services Committee also advanced the bill with all Democrats except Jim Webb from Virginia voting in favor. Almost all Republicans, including Lindsey Lohan Graham of South Carolina, voted no. Susan Collins of Maine was the sole GOP yes vote. The Senate vote should come shortly. John McCain, who is desparetely trying to court the teabaggers who will never trust him, has vowed to filibuster. In 2008 he said that if the military leadership supported repeal, he would bow to their judgement. The did and he did not keep his word.
