Is New York Times Trying to Straight-Wash Farley Granger?

An Associated Press obituary of Farley Granger was published on-line today by the New York Times.  In it, Granger is called a "lifelong bachelor" whose only real romance was with Shelley Winters.  As of this post, there is no mention of Granger's decades-long partner, Robert Calhoun.  In fact, Granger and Calhoun co-wrote the memoir Include Me Out in which they spoke of becoming lovers in 1963.  They became domestic partners and remained so until Calhoun's death three years ago.  Granger was quite open about his affairs with many men and women, including Winters, Ava Gardner, Leonard Bernstein and Arthur Laurents, but it was with Calhoun that he forged a life of nearly 50 years.  I believe that deserves a mention in his obituary, at the very least.  

UPDATE:  The AP article has been replaced with a far more appropriate obituary by Times theater and film critic Neil Genzlinger.  Granger's long relationship with Calhoun is noted.

NY Times is the New HX?

The Sunday New York Times had a splashy article on the Skin Tight Party at the Stonewall Inn which features guys dressed as superheros.  I'm not surprised that the gays have discovered yet another excuse to wear tight clothes to bars, but I was a bit pleasantly surprised to see the newspaper of record dive so deeply into the gay bar scene.  Check out the whole article, complete with a gallery of sexy men in spandex here.  I was looking for shots of Lazy Circles readers Doug, Ray and Junior in their comic book costumes, but I guess they avoided the camera.  Wait a minute, who are these three masked men? 

New York Times on Uganda Gay Genocide

The New York Times continued it's sudden discovery of the Uganda gay genocide bill with an excellent editorial in today's edition.  An excerpt: 

"Now the three Americans are saying they had no intention of provoking the anger that, just one month later, led to the introduction of the Anti-Homosexuality Bill of 2009. You can’t preach hate and not accept responsibility for the way that hate is manifested."
