The national tour of Dreamgirls is currently in previews at the Apollo Theater, a fitting location since the show begins and ends there. This revival began life in Korea where it was a hit with a Korean cast and took advantage of cheaper set construction costs. The producer is John Breglio, the executor of the estate of Michael Bennett. The production will feature some re-written scenes and the addition of the Beyonce song Listen (ugh) from the movie with new lyrics (maybe not so bad). In the picture above, Moya Angela, the new Effie White, admires the work of costume designer William Ivey Long. She said “This is definitely a big break for me. Most women in this role really take off after this.” That's an understatement, Moya.
