Evangelical Church Opens Up To Gays

From Towleroad comes an interesting story of The Highlands Church, an evangelical church in Denver whose minister decided to include gays completely. When Rev. Mark Tidd announced the change, the church lost half the membership and 2/3 of the financial support. I guess that's what happens when you take the fear out of fundamentalist religion. Tidd stands by his decision, though because it's "the right thing to do."

Tidd's decision was inspired by watching gay Christians struggle to change:

"There were devout Christians who tried this and found it spiritually and psychologically crippling," Tidd said. "If homosexuality is against God, then abstinence ought to be life-giving. These people were not flourishing. The results were broken spirits, despair and depression."

It's so nice to read about a preacher who understands our humanity.
