Something for Us in Health Care Reform
Congressman Jim McDermott, Democrat of Washington, has inserted the following language in the health care reform bill:
Section 571. Certain health related benefits applicable to spouses and dependents extended to eligible beneficiaries. This section promotes parity in health benefits by expanding the definition of “eligible beneficiary” so that domestic partners can enjoy the same tax benefits with regard to health insurance coverage, as married couples do.
In other words, my disabled husband can receive health care benefits from my employer (thank God we have DP benefits) without having to pay taxes on them, just like heterosexual married couples. Thanks, Congressman McDermott!
